Bajaj Discover and Pulsar are the two bikes which helped Bajaj motors to attain a praisable position among Indian two wheeler manufacturers. When Pulsar series made Bajaj motors a famous bike manufacturer from scooter manufacturer, Discover played a key role in making Bajaj motors the 2nd most selling two-wheeler manufacturer whose 3 lakh bikes are sold per month.

New Bajaj Discover is the 5th generation Discover. Bajaj began with Discover 125cc, then came Discover 110cc, then Discover 135cc and the last was Discover 100cc. Bajaj Discover 100cc had a fabulous selling history of 5 lakh bikes in just 225 days.

While the previous models of Discover concentrated on mileage, the new Bajaj Discover 150 is a combination of both power and mileage. Thus new Discover 150 is a perfect combination of 150cc engine's power, Discover 125's mileage and the low price of Discover 100cc. Therefore, new Bajaj Discover 150 will definitely be a threat to 150cc bikes as well as 110cc and 135cc bikes.



Design & Styling

The design of Bajaj Discover 150 is almost same as that of Discover 100cc. The head lamp, tail lamp and related body parts are similar to that of Discover 100cc. But inorder to reduce the price, many features that were present in Discover 135 has been eliminated from new Discover. The major feature added to Discover 150 is unique 240mm disc brake with cover to keep disc free from dirt as in dirt race bikes. Other new features are 100mm rear tyre to maintain control in greater speeds, 150 sticker at the back and special body graphics. All other features of new Discover 150 are same as that of Discover 100cc. Tachometer is not included in the Instrument Panel. Nitrox suspension as in Discover 100cc, LED tail light, alloy wheels, self start etc. are the other features of Discover 150.







Technical Description

Technically speaking, new Discover 150 is based on Bajaj XCD 135. Engine and frame have been adopted from XCD 135. The engine is a more powerful version of 135cc engine in XCD 135. In short, the Cylinder size of XCD 135 has been increased.

The Engine which uses DTS-i and ExhausTEC technologies provides Discover 150 a maximum power of 12.8Bhp @ 7500rpm and a maximum torque of 12.75Nm @ 5500rpm. This torque at comparatively lower rpm of 5500 reduces the frequent gear transmission in city rides.

The Discover 150 has a relatively higher mileage of about 65-70km/L compared to other 150cc bikes.



Ride & Handling

New Bajaj Discover 150 is light in weight compared to other 150cc bikes. The lower weight of 121kg makes it easy to handle as in the case of a 100cc bike.

For the sake of ease to use in cities, Discover 150 has been given short gear ratios. As a result, it has a pick up which challenges even Pulsar 150. The only defect is that top speed is reduced as a result. The top speed is between 100-105km. The shift pattern is all gears downwards.

After the huge success of F varient of Pulsar 220 Bajaj India now on its way to launch The "S" varient of Pulsar 220, named Pulsar 220 S. As in the F varient where the "F" stands for Faired, the new varient "S" stands for Street.The all new Pulsar 220 S is expected to hit Indian roads by Febuary 2010.Another good news is that the varient Pulsar 220 expected to be priced Rs. 3,000 less than the F version.

The new Pulsar 220 S has a top speed of 144 kmph tested by the Bajaj team,made the bike as the fastest bike in the country.New Bajaj Pulsar 220 S equipped with new 220cc oil cooled carburetored engine with 21 Bhp of power at 8500rpm and 19 NM of torque.Pulsar 220 is more powerful with 21 Bhp in Comparison to Karizma ZMR's 17.6 Bhp and Yamaha R15's 17 Bhp both are priced much more than the new Pulsar.The Engine of new Pulsar 220 S is upgraded with changes including new combustion chamber, all new port geometry for optimized thermodynamics, new valve coat material to eliminate cardon formation, new design short skirt lower friction piston, an all new camshaft and 33% larger oil cooler.

The new 220 S is boosted with 32 venturi carburettor which is the biggest ever used in Indian and also uses temperature based ignition mapping system that helps in optimizing ignition time for better startability, quick warm up and outstanding torque.The new Pulsar also have the standard five speed gearbox with one down and four up pattern.

There is not much change in the desin an styling compared the previous version.The new Bajaj Pulsar 220 S also features ‘all-black’ theme like Pulsar 150 & 180.The new Pulsar comes with six spoke alloy wheels, stylish body panels, clear lens indicators and exposed chain. It offers a little under-seat storage cubby that can be unlocked via a cable release located under its lockable side panel.The new Pulsar 220 S varient also comes with new 3-D graphics, redesigned console background and slightly revised clip-on handlebars.

2009 BAJAJ PULSAR 220 DTSi REVIEW

"Pulsar - definitely male", Don't you remember this caption? The introduction of Pulsar in the Indian market was a revolutionary leap for the Bajaj autos. The Pulsar was the 1st 150cc bike in the premium segment. Pulsar's victory made Bajaj one of the top two wheeler manufacturers in India. Though many other models were introduced in the market by Bajaj, none of them could get the demand equal to that of Pulsar. Bajaj continued to improvize the Pulsar series and many successors came for the Pulsar 150. First came the Pulsar 150 DTSi, then came Pulsar 180 DTSi, then Pulsar 200 DTSi and so on. This year Bajaj introduced another successor, Pulsar 220 DTS Fi. Then came the "Fastest Indian" Pulsar 220 DTSi. Bajaj hasn't disappointed the Pulsar fans. Design & Styling



The new Pulsar 220 DTSi and Pulsar 220 DTS Fi have no visible dissimilarities. The only visible difference is the Logo name. All Pulsar features such as digital speedometer, split grab rail, clip-on handle bar, 3D logo etc are retained in the new Pulsar 220 DTSi. There is no change in the exhaust portion of the bike also. Bajaj's exhaust-tec technology is used in this model also. The silencer is also equipped with catalytic converter.
Apart from the speedometer and tachometer, the digital instrument panel also contains 2 trip meters. The Pulsar 220 DTSi has side stand indicators, hazard indicators, oil & fuel indicators as well. The Pulsar 220 DTSi also contains automatic indicators as in cars. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi is available in 4 colors:Red, Blue, Black and Silver.


Technical Specifications



Compared to the Bajaj Pulsar DTS Fi with Fuel Injection support, the Pulsar 220 DTSi's engine is more powerful. The maximum power generated by the 4 stroke, single cylinder, aircooled engine is 20.71 bhp @ 8500 rpm. The maximum torque is 19 Nm @ 7000 rpm. The veturi carburetor with Carb controlled variable ignition replaces the Fuel Injection facility. The ignition is microprocessor controlled digital CDI.
The Pulsar 220 DTSi with white sump, forced lubrication, has 5-speed constant mesh transmission which reduces the chance of false neutral. The front suspension of the bike is telescopic fork with 130mm stroke. The rear suspension is trailing arm with coaxial gas assisted Hydraulic shock absorbers and coil springs. The Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTSi doesn't have kick start facility as in other premium segment bikes. Tubeless tyre and O-ring type chain are other notable features in 220 DTSi.


Drive



The Pulsar 220 DTSi has much more power than Pulsar 220 DTS Fi. The telescopic fork, gas charged suspension and tubeless tyres offer greater travel comfort. The tyres made in soft compound are used in 220 DTSi to assure improved road grip at higher speeds. The weight of the bike helps to keep it stable at higher speeds. The journey at the back seat is also comfortable.
The Bajaj claims that Pulsar 220 DTSi has a top speed of 144kmh.

Bajaj offers a mileage of 40-45km/L for Pulsar 220 DTSi. The fuel tank capacity is 15L. The reserve capacity is 3.2 L

Bajaj India has launched a modified version of their Pulsar 180 DTS-i which was a record success in the Indian markets.
The key features of Bajaj Pulsar 180 DTSi are split seats, anti scratch tankpad, wolf eyed headlamps, LED taillamp and kickless start. The new model has a very cool and stylish look. The turning radius is very small. It uses ExuasTEC(Torque Expansion Chamber) technology for the exhaust technology.
